The Life of Henrietta Szold as Told by Author Francine Klagsbrun

One way to celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month is by getting to know Hadassah founder Henrietta Szold, with the help of Francine Klagsbrun’s biography Henrietta Szold: Hadassah and the Zionist Dream. It’s “a timely reminder of Szold’s vision for a land that Jews and Arabs alike could call home,” says Diane Cole in her recent The Wall Street Journal review. Cole continues, citing Klagsbrun’s detailed history of Szold’s life leading up to and following the pivotal period in which she helped to build a nation.

The March 2024 issue of Hadassah Magazine, too, features a lively history of Szold’s life as written by Klagsbrun herself, who highlights Szold’s achievements of guiding Hadassah to be the largest Zionist group in the world, paving the way for women to take on roles they’ve never held before and raising millions of dollars for the fields of medicine, education and social services, as well as to rescue children.
